Sri Venkateswara National Park In Andhra Pradesh, India

Sri Venkateswara National Park is a protected area located in the Chittoor and Nellore districts of Andhra Pradesh, India. Established in 1989, the park spans an area of 353 square kilometers and is named after Lord Venkateswara, the deity of the famous Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati.

Nestled in the Eastern Ghats, the park is known for its dense forests, cascading waterfalls, rich biodiversity, and spiritual significance, attracting both nature lovers and pilgrims visiting the sacred Tirumala hills. The park features tropical dry deciduous and moist deciduous forests, dominated by species such as red sanders, sandalwood, teak, and bamboo. It serves as a vital habitat for a wide range of fauna, including leopards, wild boars, sloth bears, sambar deer, jackals, and several species of monkeys.

The park is also part of the Eastern Ghats Tiger Corridor, playing a role in tiger conservation. Additionally, it is home to a variety of bird species, including the Indian golden oriole, paradise flycatcher, crested serpent eagle, and several migratory birds, making it a great destination for birdwatching.

One of the main attractions of the park is its stunning waterfalls, such as the Talakona Waterfall, the highest waterfall in Andhra Pradesh, with a height of 270 feet (82 meters). Talakona is also known for its medicinal plants and serene trekking trails, offering visitors a chance to explore the lush greenery and refreshing streams of the park.

Other notable sites within the park include the Kaigal Falls (Dumukurallu Waterfalls) and the Gundalakona Waterfalls, both of which add to the park’s scenic beauty. The park’s blend of spiritual significance, breathtaking landscapes, and diverse wildlife makes it one of the most unique and important national parks in southern India, attracting nature enthusiasts, trekkers, and wildlife lovers alike.
