Bannerghatta National Park In Karnataka, India

Bannerghatta National Park, located 22 km south of Bengaluru, Karnataka, is a unique blend of wildlife, conservation, and tourism. Established in 1974, the park spans 260.51 square kilometers and is one of the most accessible national parks in India due to its proximity to a major city.

It serves as an important green lung for Bengaluru and is part of the Rangapura Reserve Forest, providing a crucial habitat for wildlife. The park is famous for its diverse flora and fauna, including species such as the Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, sloth bear, Asiatic elephant, wild boar, Indian gaur (bison), and sambar deer. It is also home to several species of reptiles like cobras and pythons, and over 100 species of birds, including the grey-headed fish eagle, paradise flycatcher, and honey buzzard.

The hilly terrain, interspersed with dry deciduous forests, bamboo groves, and scrubland, provides an excellent environment for these species to thrive. A major attraction of the park is the Bannerghatta Biological Park, which includes a safari park, butterfly park, zoo, and rescue center for injured and rehabilitated animals.

The Grand Safari is one of the most popular activities, allowing visitors to see tigers, lions, and bears up close in their semi-wild habitats. The Butterfly Park, the first of its kind in India, is a fascinating section that showcases dozens of colorful butterfly species in a controlled ecosystem.

With its rich biodiversity, engaging wildlife safaris, and conservation efforts, Bannerghatta National Park is a must-visit destination for nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and families looking for an exciting escape into the wild near Bengaluru.
