Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) National Park, located in the heart of Hyderabad, Telangana, is a lush green oasis spread over 390 acres (1.57 square kilometers). Named after Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the park was established in 1998 to protect the region’s biodiversity and provide a natural retreat within the urban landscape.

It is one of the most important urban national parks in India, serving as a crucial green lung for Hyderabad by improving air quality and supporting wildlife conservation. The park is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, featuring deciduous forests, grasslands, and scrub vegetation.

Over 600 species of plants and trees can be found here, including neem, banyan, tamarind, teak, sandalwood, and palash, making it a botanical paradise. The park also serves as a habitat for wildlife species such as peacocks, porcupines, pangolins, civets, monitor lizards, and jackals.

It supports over 140 species of birds, including Indian rollers, parakeets, hoopoes, and kingfishers, making it a popular spot for birdwatching. One of the key attractions of KBR National Park is the Chiran Palace, which was once the royal residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad.

Although the palace is not open to the public, its presence adds historical significance to the park. The park is surrounded by a 5-km-long walking and jogging track, making it a favorite spot for fitness enthusiasts, nature lovers, and morning walkers.

Inside the park, well-maintained pathways, seating areas, and viewpoints allow visitors to enjoy the scenic beauty and tranquility. Unlike larger national parks that offer safaris, KBR National Park is ideal for nature walks, photography, and relaxation.

Located in the Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills area, the park is easily accessible from all parts of Hyderabad. KBR National Park plays a vital role in urban conservation by preserving Hyderabad’s biodiversity and providing a peaceful retreat amidst the city’s rapid development.
