Balpakram National Park, located in the South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, is a breathtaking wildlife sanctuary covering 220 square kilometers at an altitude of about 900 meters above sea level. Known as the “Land of Perpetual Winds”, Balpakram is a mystical and ecologically rich region that holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for the Garo tribe, who believe it to be the resting place of departed souls.
The park is often compared to the Grand Canyon of the United States due to its stunning gorges, cliffs, and deep valleys, which add to its dramatic landscape. Balpakram is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species like the golden cat, marbled cat, wild water buffalo, red panda, and Indian bison (gaur).
