Mouling National Park In Arunachal Pradesh, India

Mouling National Park is a remote and ecologically rich national park located in the Upper Siang, West Siang, and East Siang districts of Arunachal Pradesh, India. Established in 1986, the park covers an area of approximately 483 square kilometers and is part of the larger Dibang Biosphere Reserve.

Nestled in the Eastern Himalayas, it is known for its dense forests, diverse wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant tribal culture, making it one of the most significant protected areas in Northeast India. The park derives its name from “Mouling,” which means “red poison” in the local language, referring to a poisonous plant found in the region.

The park is home to a variety of flora, including oak, rhododendrons, bamboo, pine, and medicinal plants, contributing to its rich biodiversity. Mouling National Park is an important habitat for many rare and endangered faunal species, including the tiger, clouded leopard, red panda, Asiatic black bear, wild dog (dhole), sambar deer, barking deer, and the elusive takin (the state animal of Arunachal Pradesh).

The park is also home to several species of primates, such as the Hoolock gibbon, Assamese macaque, and capped langur. Birdwatchers can spot a variety of rare and colorful birds, including the hornbill, pheasants, eagles, and tragopans, making the park a paradise for ornithologists. One of the major attractions of Mouling National Park is its untouched wilderness, offering excellent opportunities for trekking, wildlife photography, and nature exploration.

The landscape is characterized by steep hills, deep valleys, and dense tropical and subtropical forests, with elevations ranging from 750 to 3,060 meters above sea level. Due to its remote location, the park remains largely unexplored, preserving its pristine ecosystems and unique biodiversity.

The park is accessible via Pasighat or Along (Aalo), from where visitors can reach Jengging, the nearest town, and then proceed towards the park. It stands as a symbol of Arunachal Pradesh’s rich natural heritage, offering a rare glimpse into the unspoiled beauty of the Eastern Himalayas. Its rugged terrain, diverse wildlife, and cultural significance make it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and conservationists.
