Pench National Park In Madhya Pradesh, I

Pench National Park, located in the Seoni and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh, is one of India’s most famous wildlife reserves, known for its rich biodiversity and its connection to Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book.” Covering an area of 758 square kilometers, it was declared a national park in 1975 and later a tiger reserve in 1992 under Project Tiger.

The park is named after the Pench River, which flows through its heart, dividing it into two nearly equal halves and providing a crucial water source for its wildlife. The landscape consists of dry deciduous forests, rolling hills, open grasslands, and riverine habitats, making it an ideal home for a wide range of species. Pench is famous for its population of Royal Bengal Tigers, along with other predators like leopards, Indian wild dogs (dholes), and hyenas.

Herbivores such as sambar deer, chital (spotted deer), nilgai, gaur (Indian bison), and wild boars thrive in the park, while over 300 bird species, including Indian grey hornbills, Malabar pied hornbills, crested serpent eagles, and migratory waterfowl, make it a paradise for birdwatchers.

The park offers thrilling jeep safaris, allowing visitors to explore its diverse landscapes and spot wildlife up close. Apart from its natural beauty, Pench has historical and cultural significance, with references to ancient trade routes and settlements. With its stunning landscapes, incredible wildlife, and literary legacy, Pench National Park is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
