Sanjay National Park, located in the Sidhi and Singrauli districts of Madhya Pradesh, is a lesser-known yet ecologically rich wildlife sanctuary that forms a crucial part of the Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve. Spread over an area of 466.7 square kilometers, the park was established in 1981 and is an extension of the Guru Ghasidas National Park in neighboring Chhattisgarh, collectively forming an important wildlife corridor in central India.

The park is characterized by dense sal and mixed deciduous forests, rolling hills, grasslands, and riverine ecosystems, making it a perfect habitat for a variety of wildlife. While Royal Bengal Tigers are the park’s most prized predators, other carnivores such as leopards, Indian wild dogs (dholes), hyenas, and jungle cats also thrive here.

The rich herbivore population includes sambar deer, chital (spotted deer), nilgai, chinkara, and wild boars, which support the park’s predator-prey balance. In addition to mammals, the park is home to over 300 species of birds, including grey-headed fish eagles, Indian vultures, Malabar pied hornbills, and paradise flycatchers, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. The Banas and Gopad Rivers, flowing through the park, provide essential water sources for the wildlife and enhance the scenic beauty of the region.
