Van Vihar National Park, located in the heart of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, is a unique urban national park spread over 4.45 square kilometers along the banks of the Upper Lake (Bhojtal). The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including Royal Bengal Tigers, leopards, sloth bears, Indian wolves, hyenas, crocodiles, and various species of deer like chital (spotted deer), sambar, and blackbucks.

Established in 1983, it serves as both a conservation center and a recreational space for visitors.

Apart from mammals, the park boasts over 200 species of birds, including migratory birds like pintails, bar-headed geese, and spot-billed ducks, which arrive in winter to the Upper Lake’s wetland areas. The lakefront location makes it an excellent spot for birdwatching, photography, and nature walks.
Unlike conventional national parks requiring safaris, visitors can explore Van Vihar on foot, bicycle, or battery-operated vehicles, making it easily accessible and eco-friendly. Van Vihar also plays a crucial role in environmental awareness and wildlife conservation, offering educational programs for visitors.
